Calling all Calligraphy Lovers!
Expert calligrapher Nina Tran will be teaching a series of 4 classes with us over the next 4 months. She is a top notch Los Angeles-based calligrapher with years of experience in all forms of calligraphy, from classic to contemporary, Spencarian to modern. By taking Nina’s courses on calligraphy, you will learn all the skills you need to advance in this beautiful art form.
Each class will be limited in size so students will receive as much personal attention as possible! Since she will be teaching a new class each month, you can take one that sounds most interesting to you or follow along in the series to learn as much as possible!
Pointed Pen Basics
Want to learn pointed pen calligraphy but don’t know where to begin? This is the class for you!
Our goal is to build strong roots for your script to blossom by establishing a deep foundation and understanding for the tools and materials, basic techniques and key concepts. We will learn how to use our tools for optimal results and how to study and practice at home with confidence.
Exploring Copperplate: Lowercase

Copperplate is a beautiful and elegant script and is characterized by the contrast of thin (hairline) and thick (shade) strokes, a 55º slant, and delicate forms and loops, all of which are based on a narrow oval.
Our goal is to establish a strong foundation for learning the basics of calligraphy and exploring all lower case letters so you can study and practice at home with confidence and direction.
If you’re looking to learn and/or refine your Copperplate lowercase letters, this intensive class is for you.
In this 4.5-hour class, we will begin with studying the key concepts and basic strokes before moving on to writing the uppercase letterforms. Stroke-by-stroke, we will dissect each letter into component parts and examine the differences and commonalities between other letters. We will learn how to look at and critique your work with keener eyes.
This class will give you the foundation to learn and practice calligraphy with proper techniques to establish good writing habits from the start.
Introduction to Spencerian: Lowercase

Spencerian script is a handwriting system developed by Platt Rogers Spencer in the mid-1800s. Over the last few decades, Spencerian has made a comeback and is, once again, gaining popularity among penmen and calligraphers alike.
This script is well known for its simple, yet elegant, letterforms as well as ornate and captivating capitals and flourishes.
