My Studies in Copperplate Calligraphy

I think all of here at Smitten on Paper has a love for beautiful letterforms. For the past couple of years I’ve been pining over all the lovely variations to traditional calligraphy out there in the wedding world. My current favorite is Plurabelle Calligraphy, she has such  a beautiful personal style.

Being inspired by so many gorgeous works of art I finally decided to enroll in an official calligraphy class.  I thought it would be fun to follow my studies to see where I start and where I get to.  So here goes… my first homework assignment.  All the letter here have issues but it’s a start.

What I’ve learned so far about pointed pen.  It takes tons of practice, concentration and most of all you need time.  The above practice sheet took me about 2 hours in total.  So that’s that.  Copperplate is such a beautiful alphabet & so excited to learn this lettering style. I’ll keep you posted on how I’m doing!
